Green Hills Public Library
Community Mural ‘”Circles of Life”
Fabrication: January 2010 – September 2010
Installed: October 2010
Green Hills Public Library 8611 West 103rd Street, Palos Hills, IL 60465-1698
This ceramic tile mural conveys the energy of the communities that Library District serves. Notice the movement of the themes and how they relate to each other.
The history of the area, the natural environment, contemporary life of the citizens, and values of the communities, are represented in a way that underscores how they relate to one another. Horses frolic near deer tracks and Native American symbols.
Free flowing water figures prominently as well as the other geological formations that helped shape our neighborhoods. Residents of the area were asked to contribute rocks from their countries of origin, to be incorporated into the mural, thus representing the diversity and strength of the community.
Families lift their children up to appreciate nature, education, and reading! Our appreciation of history, nature, and our people is reflected in these relationships!
